Do you ever ask yourself the question how can I get closer to God. Maybe your relationship with Him feels distant or lagging intimacy. Why is that? What takes us from being on fire for God when we start our walk with Him to being in a place of confusion. If you are one of those who has felt this way, find hope today because your not alone.

I have discovered that my walk with God has its ups and downs. Some days I feel close to Him more then I ever have before. Other days I sit back and wonder why I can’t feel His presence at all. The answer is not the absence of God it’s allowing disctractions to take His place. All day long I hear voice after voice battling to steal my attention.

  • Music
  • Television
  • Coworkers
  • Social Media
  • Advertisements
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Hobbies

The list could go on and on. There are countless outlets that battle to steal our time. Relationships take attention to grow and cultivate. God is no different! If you want to get to know God you spend time with Him. Prayer, worship, reading His word are all examples. Consistency is what we’re lacking and that causes the void in our walk with Him.

It’s easy to get used to the voices all around us. We are comforted at times by the way they occupy our mind. Feeling safe because we are no longer stretched to move outside our comfort zone. God did not call you to live a comfortable life. He called you to love and live life to its fullest by sharing in the beauty that is His creation. Take time today to write down every distraction in your life. Decided today that those voices will no longer keep you from the intimate relationship you could have with our King. Chose to be consistent and pour into this because it is worth it and you are worth it. God yearns for us to know more, allow this to happen and let’s minimize the distractions together.

Focus on today, taking your walk with the Lord one step at a time!

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

  1. ‘God did not call you to live a comfortable life.’ This is true and I still fall victim to distraction now and again, but I always get back on the right track by reading/studying His Word and praying. I’ve cut down on TV and I don’t listen to music like before because they were my greatest tools of distraction.

      1. Definitely! My spiritual life has improved much more since I’ve cut television off. I only watch 2 shows a week & when its over I turn it back off.

  2. Wonderful idea to list all your distractions. They are so many and we often don’t realize they are there. You are so right in saying that spending time with God is the best use of our time everyday. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks for visiting my page.
